EXHIBITION
Information for Exhibitors
This information gives a general overview of the procedures involved if you wish to exhibit at the annual Summer Exhibition - and we hope you will! Please note that this is subject to change and updating. Detailed information about each exhibition is sent out well in advance of the event.
Our exhibition is held at the BB Hall, which sits opposite and shares the car park, with Troon Swimming Pool and normally runs from the last Saturday in July for two weeks
It is a prerequisite that members who are exhibiting, participate in the Stewarding Rota, which is necessary, for the success of the exhibition.
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
You can submit up to TWO framed works for hanging. Unframed box canvasses will be accepted PROVIDED they are more than 1 inch (2.5 cm) in depth and painted round the edges.
You can also submit up to 6 Portfolio works.
No Giclee or commercially produced prints will be accepted.
Members must take personal responsibility for their artwork and ensure that it does not infringe any copyright laws
We pride ourselves in our exhibition, and request that Artwork should be fresh and not resubmitted from previous years.
Artwork cannot be removed and must remain for the duration of the exhibition unless sold to a visitor living away from the Troon area.
There is a flat submission fee of £5, regardless of how many works you submit.
Troon Art Club takes 20% commission on each work sold.
Hanging works
MUST be fitted with rings and string at the back
Hanging works must have TWO labels; one stick-on label on the reverse side of the work, and one drop-down label attached by string, which must fall beyond the bottom of your frame (This is for cataloguing purposes and the label will eventually be cut off once hanging of the exhibition is complete).
Both labels must provide the following information ARTIST NAME, TITLE OF WORK, MEDIUM, PRICE
Examples will be available at club nights on the run up to the end of term. (See images right). Adherence to instructions is necessary to make hanging and cataloguing quicker. Poorly attached or difficult to read labels may mean that your artwork is not hung.
Large work
It is the artist’s responsibility to provide a sturdy, professional easel for any work which is too large to hang on our boards (paintings around A1 or 60cm x 84cm in size or more). The easel must be suitable for supporting that work in a public exhibition.
Portfolio works
Maximum size is A3 (30cm x 42cm) without mount.
Artwork must measure less than 1 inch (2.5cm) in depth.
MUST be professionally mounted, and wrapped in cellophane, with a stick on label attached to the FRONT of the artwork, with the same pertinent information as the hanging works - ARTIST’S NAME, TITLE OF WORK, MEDIUM and PRICE. No other information other than the label and the artwork should be visible from the front.
Portfolio pieces will not be included in the judging process.
There is a deadline for hanging submissions which should be returned to the exhibition coordinator by the date stated (usually around the end of June)
It is not necessary to furnish in advance, any pictorial information/price regarding Portfolio submissions.
Submission fees are preferred in advance of the hand–in date, via Bank transfer.
Greetings Cards
Members are invited to donate images of their artwork to be reproduced as Greetings Cards, for sale during our Summer Exhibition, with all proceeds going straight to Troon Art Club.
The cost of producing each image (10 cards & envelopes) was £6 in 2024 with our partner printers Copystop, Troon.
After the exhibition has ended we will return any unsold cards to the artist.
Rota submission requests
Each artist who exhibits, is expected to take their turn in the stewarding of the exhibition. This may not apply in extenuating circumstances.
You are asked to be as flexible as possible in your date fixing. FOUR rota slots are requested (of which ONLY two will be selected. You will not be asked to do more! This is just to give the organiser some flexibility to juggle with all the requests).
Rota slots 11.00am – 13.00pm, 13.00pm – 15.00pm, 15.00 – 17.00pm, 17.00 – 19.00pm
Please note, that if you are early with your rota submission, you have a greater chance of succeeding with the timeslot of your wishes. Otherwise, you will be issued with the only other available times.
Hand in of Artwork
Work should be brought to the BB Hall in Troon on the Thursday evening prior to the start of the exhibition.
Collection of unsold work
Work which is unsold, must be collected on the SUNDAY after the last day ONLY between 12noon - 1.00pm.
(If you cannot make it, arrange for someone to collect your works on your behalf, and inform us who that someone shall be.)
No Artwork is allowed to be removed from the exhibition on the Saturday. Only buyers will have this privilege.
